Abstract

988,640. Control of motors. ALLEN WEST & CO. Ltd. Jan. 30, 1964 [Feb. 7, 1963], No. 4995/63. Heading H2J. The control circuits for a number of motor starters are supplied over a common D.C. bus 10 which is energized from a main A.C. source through transformer T, rectifier REC1, and contact C1 of contactor C. When the A.C. supply is at normal level, timing relay TR is energized to close contact TR1, whereby contact C1 is also closed. Upon reduction of level of the A.C. supply, the output voltage of rectifier REC1 falls below the voltage of battery B, the contactor C being held operated by the battery which also supplies the bush 10. If the A.C. supply is not restored during the timing period of relay TR, contacts TR1 opened to release contactor C which disconnects the battery from bush 10. Rectifier REC2 prevents direct application of the output of rectifier REC1 to the battery, a resistor R providing trickle charging.
