Abstract

A hair colouring shampoo comprises a basic dye and an amphoteric detergent and preferably includes an essentially aqueous vehicle. A number of amphoteric detergents are specified, those preferred being N-lauryl-b -aminopropionic acid or a mixture thereof with the inner salt of 2-trimethylamino-lauric acid, the sodium salt of 1 - (carboxymethyl) - 1 - (2 - hydroxyethyl) - 2 - coco - 1 - imidazolinium hydroxide and a mixture of N-lauryl-b -aminopropionic acid and the partial sodium salt of N-lauryl-b -iminodipropionate in a ratio of 4:1 to 1:1. A number of known basic dyes of the disazo, ketone imine, triphenylmethane, xanthene, azine, oxazine and thiazine series are also specified. The compositions may further contain solubilizing agents, e.g. alcohols such as isopropanol, glycols such as hexylene glycol, non-ionic detergents such as alkanolamides, or ethylene oxide condensates with sorbitan monolaurate, ceto-stearyl alcohol or nonylphenol, perfume, hair conditioners, super-fatting agents, thickening agents such as hydroxyethylcellulose, lubricating agents, foam boosters and preservatives. The pH of the compositions is preferably adjusted to a value of 5-7 by addition of hydrochloric or phosphoric acid.ALSO:A hair colouring shampoo comprises a basic dye and an amphoteric detergent and preferably includes an essentially aqueous vehicle. A number of amphoteric detergents are specified, those preferred being N-lauryl-b -aminopropionic acid or a mixture thereof with the inner salt of 2-trimethylamino-lauric acid, the sodium salt of 1-(carboxymethyl)-1-(2-hydroxyethyl-2-coco-1-imidazolinium hydroxide and a mixture of N-lauryl-b -aminopropionic acid and the partial sodium salt of N-lauryl-b -iminodipropionate in a ratio of 4:1 to 1:1. A number of known basic dyes of the disazo, ketone imine, triphenylmethane, xanthene, azine, oxazine and p thiazine series are also specified. The compositions may further contain solubilizing agents, e.g. alcohols, glycols and non-ionic detergents, perfume, hair conditioners, super-fatting agents, thickening agents, lubricating agents, foam boosters and preservatives. The pH of the compositions is preferably adjusted to a value of 5-7. Examples are given.
