In an automotive mining machine disintegrated material gathered at the front end of the machine is conveyed by a scraper conveyer topping the frame which comprises a slewing jib 8 jointed to a body part 9. Slewing is carried out hydraulically by oil under pressure from a pump 10 fed under control of a valve assembly 16 to the appropriate unit 12, 13 or 14, 15: at the same time oil is fed through one or other of non-return valves 34 or 35 to a pair of tensioning rams 24 which spring cushioning connections 26 to the ends of conveyer pulley 20 in order to keep the scraper chain 4 taut. Oil is bled off to a reservoir 11 through a relief valve 33 when the jib is returned to its central position.
