Abstract

984,149. Hypodermic instruments. BECTON, DICKINSON & CO. Feb. 12, 1964 [June 25, 1963], No. 5901/64. Heading A5R. [Also in Division B8] A self-sealing pierceable stopper 5, e.g. of rubber, for receiving a hypodermic needle, comprises a tubular plug 10 with an enlarged head 12 and a partition 18 closing the plug interior. A concave recess 20 is formed in the head and a convex surface 22 provided on the partition. An annular groove 24 located adjacent the head assists in retaining the stopper within the open end of a tubular container into which it is pressed. Fig. 1 shows an assembly suitable for collecting blood samples in which a glass tube 6 is provided with the stopper 5 and a double-ended cannula mounted in a holder 7.
