Abstract

977,172. Pressure suits. MINISTER OF AVIATION. Jan. 14, 1963 [Oct. 23, 1961], No. 37879/61. Heading A3V. A joint for a pressure suit comprises a first set of spaced apart cord engaging members secured on or adjacent to an axis of bending of the joint and a second set of spaced members secured on a relatively movable part of the suit several inches away from the first set and a continuous cord slidably engaging a member of each set alternately of a length such that when the suit is inflated the tensioning of the suit material between the two sets of members is prevented. A cord 15 is threaded through a pair of rings 14a, 14b on the sleeve and through rings 13a, 13b on the body portion on the axis of bending of the sleeve. The sleeve may be notched the edges R 1 R 2 of the notch being secured to the suit. Reinforcing tapes 17 which cross the armhole approximately at the axis of bending may be fitted to engage the rings 13a, 13b.
