A vehicle cargo loading device comprises a cargo platform slidable on a mine frame pivotally mounted on support members pivoted on the chassis. A cargo platform 14- 16 is longitudinally slidable on rollers mounted in bearings 23 in inner frame members 11. The frame members 11 are pivoted on a pin 18, Fig. 4, mounted in support members 13 pivoted on a pin 26 fixed to sleeves 27 mounted on chassis members 12. To tilt the platform an hydraulic ram piston 33 engaging a subassembly 35 pivots the support members 13 and the parts mounted thereon from a position in which the platform is parallel to the chassis to a position in which the assembly 35 engages stops 36 and the pin 18 has passed over centre position relative to the pin 26. To slide the platform 14-16 a ram piston 25, Fig. 3, is extended and this movement is facilitated by well greased running plates 41, Figs. 4,6, on the chassis members 12. When tilted, a leg assembly 37 supports the platform at the midpoint between the ground contact of a tail board 52 and the ends of the chassis members 12 where rollers 44, Fig. 6, are provided to facilitate the sliding movement of the platform. Locking plates 40, 42 prevent vertical displacement of the frame 11 when it is in its horizontal transporting position while posts 46 prevent transverse movement and a pin inserted through a bore 48 into a frame member 14 prevents longitudinal movement. Collapse of the platform assembly from its tilted position is prevented by the over centre position of the pin 18. An hydraulic winch 17 is used to draw the loads on to the platform and control handles 49 for this and the hydraulic rams are mounted on a bracket 50 attached to a sleeve 27.
