Abstract
964,585. Hypodermic injection apparatus. EXPRESS INJECTOR CO. Ltd. March 6, 1961 [March 23, 1960], No. 10353/60. Heading A5R. A needleless hypodermic injector comprises two spring-loaded plungers, one slidable within the other, the inner plunger being released first and then both moving downwards together. The device is shown cooked in the drawing, two concentric springs 27, 28 being compressed between telescopic guides 25, 26. When a release plunger 35 is depressed, the inverted cone 29a at the lower end of rod 29 allows a ball 33 to move inward clear of a recess 26a in the outer guide 26, so that this, being released, is driven downwards by the springs. The inner plunger 17 is consequently driven downwards to introvert the reduced end 13 of the ampoule 10 and cause a high pressure initial injection. Then, as soon as the abutment 17b reaches the end of the tubular plunger 18, the two move forward together with the outer plunger bearing against the shoulder 12, so that the whole of the ampoule body is introverted and the contents are expelled. The springs 27, 28 are recompressed by partially rotating a ring 38 to allow projections 38c to pass through recesses 24a into the body and then pressing the guide 25 downwards until the ball catch 33 engages. Springs 20, 21 and 34 then return the mechanism to the starting position and it is locked by rotating the ring 38. Rotation of this ring also controls a locking slide 36 which prevents unintentional depression of the release button 35. The ampoule is held in position by a screwed cap 19 bearing on its sealing ring 16 and thus a spent ampoule is readily removed by unscrewing the cap. Specification 964,584 is referred to.
