Abstract
964,139. Windscreen wipers. J. W. ANDERSON. June 1, 1962 [June 19, 1961; Sept. 15, 1961], No. 21191/62. Heading A4F. In a windscreen wiper assembly a plurality of secondary yokes 15, 15<SP>1</SP> transmit pressure from a primary yoke 14 to points on an elangate flexible wiping element 12. The yokes are arranged so that there is no nesting between them during the operation of the wiper. The primary yoke 14 is curved about both its transverse axis and a line parallel to its longitude axis (Fig. 3) so that the surface defines an aero foil. When the wind, denoted by vector X, strikes this surface it is deflected upwards and the resultant force Y tends to force the wiper blade against the windscreen thereby counteracting the tendency of the blade to leave the screen caused by the wind striking other parts of the wiper assembly.
