Abstract

957,439. Adjustable beams. O. HINZE. Nov. 21, 1960 [Nov. 25, 1959], No. 39869/60. Heading E1S. A beam comprises a section 19, Fig. 4, slidable in a section 18 in which is an adjusting screw 21 the head 10, Fig. 5, of which is slidable in a groove 9 in the section 19 which can be pivoted about its engagement with the section 18 as well as being slidable in this section and locked in position by the screw. The beam may comprise a second inner section 20. The beam sections in Fig. 4 are curved but if straight the inner section pivots on a projecting abutment on the outer section. The adjusting screw engages a screw threaded bore in the lower wall 12, Fig. 5, of the outer beam section and a locking screw 28 engages in the screw threaded bore of the adjusting screw and is adapted to be screwed against the upper surface of the groove 9 to lock the beam sections together. A bearing block may be interposed between the end of the locking screw and the upper surface of the groove 9. The head 10 may be pivotable on the adjusting screw by means of trunnions or a universal joint. The inner beam section may engage a U-section abutment 67, Fig. 11, pivoted in the outer beam section or grooves in the inner beam section may engage rectangular blocks pivotable in the side walls of the outer beam section. Marks may be provided on the beam sections to indicate the correct angle at which to set the sections, Fig. 16 (not shown).
