955,380. Mobile responding stations. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. Nov. 14, 1962 [Nov. 16, 1961], No. 43033/62. Heading H4L. A mobile radio responding station for use in aeroplanes comprises a receiver, a transmitter and a bistable device such that on the receipt of a predetermined individual code signal from a ground station the device is triggered to effect readiness of the transmitter to respond on arrival of a following interrogating signal which in turn triggers the device back to its initial position. Signals picked up by receiver 1 are applied to decoder 4 which produces a pulse on receipt of a predetermined code to trigger flipflop 3. The change in state of flip-flop 3 produces an output signal which effects readiness of transmitter 2 to transmit. The following interrogation signal is applied directly from receiver 1 to flip-flop 3 and triggers it back to its initial state. This change effects trigger keying of transmitter 2 causing it to send a response signal to the ground station. This response signal may be followed by an altitude representative signal from source 5 and coded by coder 6 prior to application to transmitter 2.
