An air heater for space heating by warm air circulation comprises integers capable of location in different positions relative to one another within an outer casing of rectangular plan form, said integers including a centrifugal fan unit dividing an upright casing into upper and lower chambers, and a double-walled heat exchanger unit heated by an oil burner. As shown, a combined air heater and hot water boiler has an outer casing A provided with a number of apertures in its sides, not shown, all the apertures being blanked off except those adjacent the air inlets and outlets of the fan unit as arranged in a particular installation, the internal arrangement of the units and the arrangement of apertures being suited to the heater's position. Air drawn through an inlet 3 in the casing A passes through a removable filter element 8 to twin fans 6 driven by a single motor, and thence through a port 3a in the casing 2 of the fan/filter unit into a space 9a between an outer wall 2a and an inner wall 9 of the heat exchanger unit. Hot combustion products from an oil-fired wall flame burner at the base of the heat exchanger unit pass up through the inner space enclosed by the wall 9, and leave the heater through a flue hood 14 which has five alternative outlets (not indicated), those not being connected to the flue being blanked off. Ducts 12 carry air to be heated across the path of the combustion gases. The heated air leaves the heat exchanger through a port 4a and passes through a chamber 17 in the fan/filter unit to an outlet 4, which may open into the space being heated or into a duct leading thereto. A hot water boiler 20 has a separate burner 21, the combustion gases passing through a duct 22 into the main flue hood 14. A fan thermostat and limit thermostat, not shown, are housed in a section 18 on one of the ducts 12.
