Abstract

A charge for a blasting device (see Division F3) comprises (1) a main flameless gas-producing composition, basically ammonium nitrate, or a mixture of guanidine nitrate and magnesium nitrate hexahydrate, (2) a primer, basically guanidine nitrate with ammonium persulphate, urea with sodium nitrite, nitroguanidine, or nitrocellulose, and (3) an igniter which is antimony with potassium permanganate, or Pb3O4 with MnB2. Compositions containing ammonium nitrate may also contain magnesium nitrate hexahydrate, calcium carbonate, formate or stearate, or starch. Ancillary primer ingredients mentioned are cuprous chloride, bentonite, castor oil, china clay, dibutyl phthalate, K2SO4, diphenylamine, nitroglycerin, cryolite and ethyl centralite. Percentage proportions of examplary formulations are given.
