A potato planting machine provided with cups mounted on discs 3 is characterized in that a dividing member is mounted in the lower portion of a hopper 1 the sloping sides 5, 5<SP>1</SP> of the member leading to discharge openings in the hopper to which pick-up pockets 2 are attached, the pockets being arc-shaped and increasing in cross-section in an upward direction the cups passing into the pockets to pick up potatoes. Loosening members 14 are mounted on the discs and pass through the potatoes in the pockets. The pockets are mounted for swinging movement and are held in operative position by means of a lock. The dividing member is pivotally mounted and is provided with a weight.
