Abstract

936,686. Valves. CRANE CO. Feb. 28, 1961, No. 7288/61. Class 135. A rotatable spherical plug valve closure 53 is provided within a conical plug valve closure 9 which is seated in a body 1, the spherical plug being supported between seat rings engaged in the conical plug bore and conforming on one hand to the spherical plug surface and on the other hand to the conical taper. Each seat ring may, as shown, be in two parts, of which one part, 47, preferably metallic, engages the valve body whilst the other part, 52, of non-metallic material, engages the spherical plug. An O- ring 55 may be carried between these parts. The conical plug is also sealed by 0-rings 21, 44 and serves to draw the seat rings together. Normally, the conical plug is secured in its open position by a nut 24, or it may be placed at 90 degrees in closed position. Rotation is limited by a stop 57 on a thrust washer 56. In a modification, rotation of the spherical plug is limited by a stop on an operating handle engaging an arcuate slot in a fixed washer. In another modification, the seats are single metallic members carrying O-rings.
