Abstract

936,259. Continuous casting-machines. CONCAST A.G. July 5, 1961 [Aug. 2, 1960], No. 24243/61. Class 83 (1). The pouring jet is guided into a continuous-casting mould by electromagnetic means. A D.C. voltage is applied to the pouring jet 8 by electrodes 2 and 12 in the ladle and mould respectively, and the pouring jet flows between the poles 7a of an electromagnet 7 mounted on a turntable 6. The jet is therefore caused to move laterally to an extent depending on the magnitude of the voltage applied to the electrodes 2, 12, and of the magnetic field between the poles 7a so that it can be moved to the centre of the mould 5a from any non- central position. In a modification there are two magnetic deflection systems placed one above the other and offset relatively to one another by 90 degrees.
