Abstract

926,205. Cleaning coke oven door frames. DESIGN OFFICE OF KOKSOCHIMMASH GUIPROKOKS. March 9, 1961, No. 8616/61. Class 99(2). A mechanism for cleaning the door frames and shells of coke ovens comprises a trolley 1 having spring-loaded brushes connected with a spring lever system, means for reciprocating the trolleys, wedge-shaped cam bars associated with the spring-lever system, spring bumpers arranged to engage a door frame and move the cam bars during movement of the mechanism towards a coke oven so that the spring lever system allows the reciprocating trolleys to clean the front and shell of the oven. The mechanism comprises a double platform trolley 1 mounted on track wheels 2 and in which the lower platform is located at the same level as the working platform of the door-removing machine and coke guide and the upper platform serves as a landing providing access to the cradle removing and raising mechanism, a lever suspension assembly which carries the cradle 6 and is furnished with two upper and two lower angled levers 7, 8 joined by veritcal tie-rods 9 to permit approach of the frame cleaning gear to the oven to be serviced, and travel from the oven to an extreme rear position, a self-aligning cleaning-mechanism guide assembly 17 fastened by means of a spider member 18 to a swinging bracket 15 and counterbalanced by two side and two rear vertical springs 19, 20, a removable protective shield 21 incorporating four frame locators 22 which shield is fastened to the front part of the guide assembly and furnished with two side brushes 23, 24 to clean deposits from the door-frame top and sills. The assembly of working parts constituting the cleaning mechanism comprises double-unit, side-brush carriages 25 and two face-brush carriages 26 and metal-wire brushes 44, 45 and 46 connected together by a spring- compensated chain 27, an electric drive 30 to impart reciprocating motion to the carriages by means of a chain transmission comprising two chain racks 31 and one sprocket fastened to a slow-speed drive shaft 32. There is a brush-expanding arrangement comprising vertical rods 47, lever assemblies 49, 50, 51 and 52 incorporating springs 48 and double-arm levers 60, 63 associated with a rocker arm 55 pivoted to bumper connecting rods 43, switching rods 56, upper fixed rollers 57 and adjustable lower rollers 58 arranged to travel along cam bars 59. The brushes are fixed in a spring-mounted manner to the carriages 25, 26 which reciprocate on rollers along the self-aligning cleaning mechanism guide assembly, whereby the entire mechanism is brought into alignment with the actual position of the oven door frame and shell and automatic retraction from the surfaces being cleaned is obtained. In operation, and when the shield 21 has entered the oven, the rollers 57, 58 are guided over the cam bars 59 to turn the lever 60 about an axis 61 such motion being transmitted to lever assemblies 49 ... 52 to thereby draw together the rods 47 and bring the brushes into contact with the oven door frame. The cleaning gear drive is automatically switched on so that the reciprocable brushes carry out the cleaning operation, the brushes being moved to the cleaning position thereof by double-arm spring-loaded levers.
