Abstract
911,889. Wells. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. April 5, 1961 [April 7, 1960], No. 12168/61. Class 85. Apparatus for the recovery of oil of high viscosity from a formation penetrated by wells comprises a steam generator, conduit for supplying steam under pressure to a first well or set of wells, a container for collecting oil, and conduits for supplying oil to the container connected to the first well or set of wells and to a second well or set of wells. The first well is subjected to a cycle of operations comprising steam injection, close-in, and oil production. The cycle is repeated until the steam drives the oil remaining in the formation, to the second well which is then produced. In a modification the generator is also connected by a conduit to the second well. In operation of the modification the first and second wells are both repeatedly subjected to the cycle, one well producing whilst the other is injected. When the steam injected to one well drives the remaining oil to the other well, steam is continuously injected to the one well and the other well is produced. The feed-water for the generator may pass through a heat-exchanger in the conduit leading oil from the producing well.
