[Also in Group XXXVIII] A sound-producing device comprises an openended tubular housing in which are located a thin, flexible reed part and a separate, substantially rigid, reed part, the two parts being held together in assembled relationship within the bore of the housing by means providing frictional engagement, the housing being provided at one end with means which prevent the removal of the reed assembly through that end, but which allows the passage of air through the housing and being provided at the same end with a pair of spaced, outwardly-projecting flanges defining a recess therebetween for facilitating the attachment of the device in an aperture in the well of a hollow body. A tapered tube 5 houses a pair of metal reed members 11, 12 wedged therein by a cylindrical plug 7. A closure member 13 frictionally engages in the larger end of the tube and has an external flange 15, and a cross-bar or bars 16. The end of the tube has an external flange 6. The tube is placed in a flexible sleeve 18 extending within a hollow toy, the sleeve having a rib which engages in the groove between the flanges. Alternatively a single flange on the housing may engage in a groove in the toy. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, the plug comprises a wall 24 integral with a wall 25 extending from the tube 20. The tube has a frusto-conical portion 22 with an inturned flange 23 which engages in a groove between flanges 27, 28 on the closure member. A wire gauge 29 or a perforated diaphragm may be inserted in the closure member. A hollow flexible ball 33 within a stuffed toy has an aperture, the edge of which is gripped between flanges 26, 27 on the closure member. The housing may be made of plastic material.
