Abstract

910,250. Jet-propulsion nozzles. VICKERSARMSTRONGS (AIRCRAFT) Ltd., and HAY, J. A. May 5, 1961, No. 16424/61. Class 110 (3). A turbo-jet engine has mounted in the efflux close to and downstream of the jet nozzle a plurality of vanes mounted on carriers supported on fixed structures such that the carriers may be extended longitudinally into or retracted from the operative position and the vanes, which have a vertex extending upstream, may be pivoted about the end of the carriers so as to reduce noise by the addition of air to the efflux. Vanes 17 are mounted near the jet pipe 10 on arms 173 pivotally connected to carriers 123 which are extended or retracted by hydraulic jacks 12. The vanes are pivoted about the end of the carriers by jacks 13. When in their retracted position the vanes are contained in housings 11.
