Display shelves 75, 76 provided with cooling means are carried by a vertical spindle 52 rotatably mounted in a base 10 and rotated by an electric motor 13. As shown, a compression system 14 on frame 45, which rotates with the shelves, supplies refrigerant through pipe 65 to evaporator coils 67, 68 located between the shelves and an underlying insulation layer 63 or 59. The shelves slope downwards so that moisture from the upper shelf falls on to the lower shelf, moisture from the latter falling into gutter 37. Glazed walls 72, 39, which may be double glazed, surround shelves 75, 76, respectively. Refrigerated partitions may be disposed radially to divide the shelves into compartments and a refrigerated wall may be located at the inner end thereof. Pegs at the shelf periphery may retain articles thereon. In a modification, the refrigerating system is mounted on the base 10 and the refrigerant is conducted through a rotating seal device on shaft 52 to the evaporators. Alternatively the evaporator also is on the base, and a fan circulates air over it, through a rotating seal device, up the shaft 52, radially outwards over the shelves, radially inwards under the shelves, and back to the fan by a stationary duct. The apparatus is surmounted by a rotating illuminating assembly 81.
