In a conveyer system in which load carrying trolleys 1 are movable along a fixed track 2 by driving-members 19 on a driven chain 3 running in a guide 4 adjacent the track 2, the separation of the track 2 and the guide 4 is increased at desired stations C so that if desired the trolleys 1 can be stopped (as by a stop 23) and the driving- members 19 ride over the coupling parts 10 of the trolleys; at other stations D, the separation is such that disengagement of driving and coupling members always occurs. Each trolley has a stirrup 10, Fig. 2, which is engaged by a member 19 spring-loaded at 21 to tend to rotate clockwise against abutment 18 about axis 15 on one side of a plate 13 depending from chain 3. When the separation a between guide 4 and track 2 increases to b, the member 19 is shaped to rotate anti-clockwise and disengage from the stirrup 10. A stop 16 is mounted on the other side of plate 13 so that on a down-hill section B, the trolley is prevented from running away.
