Abstract

An exothermic composition, suitable for use in the production of linings for head-boxes and risers used in the production of metal castings and ingots and which can be formed in the shape of a slab or sleeve, has the following composition by weight:- fine aluminium powder 10 to 50 parts, sand or other filler 30 to 60 parts, nitrate and/or chlorate 2 to 15 parts, lithium fluoride 0,1 to 10 parts, iron and/or manganese oxide 0 to 20 parts, and a binder 0 to 5 parts.
