Abstract

888,845. Drying apparatus. COURTAULDS Ltd. May 15, 1959 [May 19, 1958], No. 15933/58. Class 34(2) Wood pulp containing 15 to 75% of liquid, by weight, is dried in an apparatus comprising a chamber 10 which it enters through a duct 9 and in which it is contacted by hot air at a temperature of between 300‹ C. and 550‹ C. introduced through a duct 8. The resulting mixture is drawn by a fan 4 through a chamber 11 in which turbulence is induced by a rotating disc 2 mounted on the fan shaft 1 and carrying concentric circles of pins 5 which intermesh with pin circles 6 on the chamber casing. The dried pulpair mixture is discharged from the fan chamber 12 through a duct 14 at a temperature of between 90‹ and 120‹ C. and is passed to a cyclone separator. The air may be subsequently reheated and recycled to the chamber 10. Specification 809,429 is referred to.
