Abstract

877,173. Magnetic tape juke-boxes; magazines. ALVARADO, R. O. Oct. 3, 1958, No. 31726/58. Class 40 (2). A magnetic juke-box carries a plurality of endless tape magazines 20 in an interchangeable draw-like carrier 7, the half-tracks on the tapes being associated with a double row of buttons 3, tape-winding and record/playback functions being controlled from a panel 155. Each magazine supports a capstan 23 and a pressure pad 25 at the rear of the magazine as loaded, the capstan being engaged by a pinch roller 37 and the tape 31 being engaged by heads mounted in a carriage 36 driven longitudinally by a lead screw 59 and advanced into engagement with the magazine by a solenoid 69, the heads being separately withdrawn for fast winding. Means associated with selector button-operated members 45 engage the advancing carriage to interrupt the drive to the lead screw 59 and halt the carriage adjacent a selected track, accurate alignment being achieved by pins on the heads engaging holes 27, 28 or 29, 30 in the magazines. Contacts 53 engage tape stop-foils 31a to zero the tapes during fast winding.
