Abstract
869,132. Hydro - pneumatic spring - units; regulating vehicle height. AVNER, D A. Aug. 16, 1957 [Aug. 17, 1956], No. 25169/56. Classes 108(2) and 108(3). In a constant - length hydro - pneumatic spring unit, when the vehicle is in motion a piston 1 oscillates in a cylinder 3 and in conjunction with oneway valves 14, 15 acts as a pump to transfer oil from a reservoir 22 to a pressure chamber 16 above the piston. This action causes the suspension unit to extend and lift the vehicle until ports 17 are uncovered by the piston 1 when oil flows back through these ports from the pressure chamber to reservoir 22. The mean length of the suspension unit is thus controlled by the position of ports 17.
