Abstract
867,782. Rigid laminates. BOULTON & PAUL Ltd. March 25, 1958 [March 30, 1957; May 17, 1957], Nos. 10467/57 and 15674/57. Class 140. A metal plate 1, Fig. 3, or shaped metal article, is perforated as at 2 with holes set in depressions 3 in the metal and has applied to it on the protrusions side of the sheet, a coating or layer of thermoplastic material, such as polythene or polyvinyl chloride, which is pressed through the holes and fills the depressions. The holes are so arranged that all straight lines on the metal surface pass through some depressions. In modifications, thermoplastic material may be applied to both sides of the metal, and the depressions may be formed alternately in opposite directions. A number of thermoplastic covered metal layers may be united by the thermoplastic interlayers. Brackets 5, Fig. 6, having a perforated arm 6a carrying thermoplastic material 7 and an imperforated portion 6c, may be sealed to the laminate by a heated iron applied to the part 6c. Alternatively, the bracket may comprise a pair of adjacent limbs such as 5 bent outwardly and integral with a perforated base carrying thermoplastic material, and the lower surface of the latter may be ridged to facilitate sealing.
