Abstract

860,872. Luminescent screens. PHILCO CORPORATION. June 19, 1957 [June 25, 1956], No. 19297/57. Drawing to Specification. Class 39 (1) [Also in Group XX]. In forming a luminescent screen, particularly for colour television, by the 'method in which a photosensitive layer is formed on the screen, exposed to the required phosphor pattern, and then treated to remove the unexposed portion of the photosensitive layer and its phosphor, after the initial forming of the photosensitive layer it is treated by a substance to remove therefrom a predetermined amount of the photosensitive constituent in that part of the layer furthest away from the screen. In this manner a layer is formed in which the photosensitive constituent decreases in concentration away from the screen so that on exposure the resulting hardening of the layer also decreases in the same direction thereby facilitating adherence of the phosphor when deposited in the next step of the process. The photosensitive substance may be ammonium dichromate which is leached by a denatured alcohol. Specifications 788,661 and 802,908 are referred to.
