Abstract

858,207. Colour television tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 1, 1959 [Oct. 13, 1958], No. 32593/58. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XL(c)] Relates to a television arrangement comprising a three-gun, shadowmask, colour cathoderay tube (R.C.A. type 21 AXP 22A) in which the three guns are off-set in different directions from the tube axis. In accordance with the invention, the conventional convergence system (an electromagnetic deflection assembly associated with each gun supplied with an adjustable direct current and line-and frame-frequency saw-tooth and parabolic waves), which is provided to maintain the three beams in register over a scanned raster, is supplemented by a further convergence system associated with only one gun 3 (the " blue " gun in the example disclosed) and formed of a coil 17 mounted outside the tube, a curved hollow pole piece mounted within the tube on the gun, and a permanent magnet 22 with its axis at right-angles to the tube axis rotatably mounted for adjustment in a cylindrical holder 19. In operation of the tube, either the line or frame scan direction is arranged to correspond to the direction in which gun 3 is off-set from the tube axis. As a consequence, the conventional convergence system for gun 3 is able to effect control in only one (respectively the line or frame) direction. Correction in the other direction is then effected by the further convergence system which operates on the beam at rightangles to the conventional system, coil 17 being supplied with a saw-tooth current respectively of frame or line frequency to introduce dynamic correction and magnet 22 being adjusted for static correction. The Specification includes details of the procedure for adjusting the conventional and additional convergence systems. A circuit for supplying the line- and frame-waves to the convergence systems is described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown).
