Abstract

858,158. Mounting engines. AUSTIN MOTOR CO. Ltd. Oct. 19, 1959 [Dec. 3, 1958], No. 38946/58. Class 79(3). A motor vehicle power unit comprising an internal combustion engine and transmission system including a differential gear is resiliently mounted upon the vehicle structure or sub-frame thereof and is additionally supported against rocking by a longitudinally disposed pipe which also serves to convey exhaust gases. The power unit 1 may be supported at each end upon a sub-frame 4 by resilient supports 3 and the additional support is afforded by an exhaust pipe 6 secured to the power unit at 7 and 8 and to the vehicle frame at 10 and 15, the latter supports including rubber mountings 11 and 14. In addition, a tie rod 16 attached to the power unit at 18 and to the vehicle structure at 17 may be included. The tie rod is provided with rubber bushes 19 and 28, Fig. 4.
