Abstract

855,965. Ironing-boards; washing-machines. HOOVER Ltd. Aug. 14, 1958 [May 21, 1957], No. 16116/57. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XIII] A washing- and/or -drying machine is combined with an ironing- board 20 which in a storage position fits into a recess 14 in a flanged outer lid 13 of the machine and in a working position is supported by a pillar 21 extending from the underside of the board into a tubular socket 22 in the underside of the lid 13. The depth of the recess 14 is equal to the thickness of the board 20 so that in the storage position the lid and board form a flush surface. A latch bell-crank 24 biased by a spring 25 co-operates with vertically spaced notches 23 on the pillar 21 so that when the board is raised to its working position 9 rotated through 90 degrees the latch engages one of the notches and the board is retained in position. A groove 28 extending the full length of the pillar at a position 90 degrees from the notches is also provided so that on rotating the board through 90 degrees from the working position the latch is disengaged from the notch and biased into the groove 28 to enable the board to be lowered to another notch or into the storage position. The ironing-board may either be the same length as the machine casing or it may be extendible to a longer length and a collapsible support is then provided. The outer lid may also contain a recess 35 to store an electric iron. Specification 846,111 is referred to.
