Abstract

The invention comprises dyes of formula: <FORM:0854432/IV (c)/1> where Z is Hlg, X is an alkylene radical of at least 2 C atoms or an unsubstituted or substituted phenylene or diphenylene radical, R and R1 are H or alkyl and A and A1 are residues of watersoluble azo dyes free from complexly-bound metal and from atomic-groupings which may lead to the formation of metal complexes. The dyes may be made by treating one mol of diamine corresponding to X with 2 mols of appropriate triazine dyes or by treating 2 mols of dyes of the formula AN(H)R with 1 mol of an appropriate ditriazine derivative. Z is specified as bromine or Cl, the latter being preferred. Specified residues corresponding to X are ethylene, propylene, isopropylene and hexamethylene. R and R1 are preferably lower alkyl groups, e.g. methyl, ethyl, propyl and butyl groups. Preferably A and A1 are monoazo residues of the phenylazo-naphthalene and -pyrazolone series. Representative of specified diamines are propylene-, hexamethylene- and pphenylenediamines, 1, 3- phenylenediamine -4- sulphonic acid, benzidine, #stolidine and benzidine-2, 21- sulphonic acid. Indicated as azo dyes are those of Specifications 774,925, 785,120, 785,222, 826,405 and 838,340. The dyes colour cellulose textile materials by the processes of Specifications 797,946, 819,585 and 820,470. They will also colour fibres of wool, nylon and silk and unions of these with cellulosic fibres. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in dyeing processes. In the Provisional Specification X is a divalent radical of at least 2 C atoms many values additional to those given above, e.g. benzyl, xylylene, naphthalene, anthraquinone, fluorene, diphenyl sulphide, azo benzene, diphenyloxadiazole, 2, 4- diphenyl-amino -striazine and 1, 2- bis-(phenylcarbamyl) ethane, being specified.
