Abstract

841,175. Road-vehicle spring-suspensions; springs. JULIEN, M. F. A., and USINES PAULSTRA. Jan. 8, 1958 [Jan. 10, 1957], No. 808/58. Classes 108(2) and 108(3). Arms 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, respectively carrying front and rear road wheels 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, are connected by a spring device 8 which is independent of the vehicle frame 1. Further springs 9, 9<SP>1</SP>, act respectively between each arm 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, and the frame 1. As shown, the spring 8 is a rubber compression spring, but it may be a coiled spring (Fig. 1, not shown). Springs 9 are formed by rubber sleeves which in an alternative form (Fig. 5, not shown) may be of rectangular cross-section. The inner surface of the rubber sleeve is connected to the frame via a' splined spindle 16 by means of which the pre-load of the spring may be adjusted. The spring 8 may be adjusted by means of a wing nut 10. The spring 9 may alternatively be a pneumatic spring or hydro-pneumatic spring (Fig. 6, not shown), or a tubular rubber compression spring reinforced with a coil spring (Fig. 7, not shown). The spring 9 may also be provided by a torsion bar. The rigidity of the spring 8 may be arranged to increase with deflection.
