836,505. Spindle brake arrangements for twisting machines. PRINCE-SMITH & STELLS Ltd. Aug. 1, 1958 [Sept. 2, 1957], No. 23556/58. Divided out of 836,470. Class 120(2) [Also in Group XXXIV] Each spindle 10 in a textile twisting machine has a rotatable brake ring 17 connected to it by a unidirectional clutch which transmits drive to the ring but allows reverse rotation of the spindle after braking has been applied so that, if a stop motion is operated, yarn may be unwound from the bobbin to prevent downward movement of the ring rail from causing yarn breakage. A scissors brake 18 co-operates with the ring 17 which is rotatable on a collar 15 fixed to the spindle 10. When the spindle rotates a roller 19 in a socket of the collar 15 is flung outwardly by centrifugal force to engage a radial face in a recess 171 of the ring 17 and transmits drive. After braking, the spindle may rotate freely in the reverse direction, the recess 171 being shaped to force the roller 19 within the collar 15. Two recesses 171 may be provided in the ring 17 to give positive drive in both directions, both being inoperative when the spindle is slowly rotated by the tension of the yarn as the ring rail moves downwards.
