Abstract

832,041. Filters. SEWAGE & WATER PURIFICATION (PROPRIETARY) Ltd. Feb. 6, 1958 [Feb. 11, 1957], No. 3909/58. Class 46. Sewage sludge admitted at 23, Fig. 1, proceeds by a tortuous path in a spreading box 5 to a slot 19 whence it flows on to a fine screen 1, the filtrate passing also through a finer screen 2. Each screen is backed by a coarser screen and the screens are vibrated by a single magnetic vibrator 6 having an adjustable amplitude whose upper limit may be #inch ; the armature 8 is connected to the screens. The screens proper and the backing screens are attached to the stationary structure 9 by exteriorly-operated tensioning means. In Fig. 4, the structure 9 may be tilted, by means not shown, so that the slope of the screens may be varied. Also, each screen is of stepped formation, and may consist of a single length or of separate sections ; in either case each step is connected independently to a yoke 38 which in turn is connected to the armature of the vibrator 6.
