Class 30 The invention relates to a safety razor in which the blade clamping means has two blade receiving positions, one so as to fully clamp a blade for shaving, whilst the other is a positively located position in which the blade is held less firmly for rinsing. In the preferred embodiment the razor head is in one piece and comprises and a split cover, the two portions 11a, 11p of which have tongues 11a2, 11b2 hinged to yokes 17a secured to a crossbar 17. Connected to the crossbar and extending through the razor handle is a push rod- 15; recessed at the lower end to form an a guard 10 on which the blade 12 seats, abutment surface 15a. About the end of the rod is a rotatable screw threaded sleeve 16 secured to an external cap 13 by which the sleeve is screwed into the handle. When the sleeve is unscrewed to its full extent the blade is clamped against the guard 10. On screwing the sleeve into the handle, spacing between the end of the sleeve and surface 15a allows the push rod to project below the cap. Continued screwing causes the slide rod to move upwards until a spring urged pawl 18 on the rod engages a detent 14c in the handle, when the blade cover is spaced from the guard for rinsing the blade (Fig. .5). To open the covers 11a, 11b, the rod 15 is pushed until the pawl 18 enters a second detent 14c when the tongues 11a2, 11b2, will have contacted the lower edge of the guard 10 and thus have caused the covers 11a, 11b to pivot about the yokes 17a freeing the blade. The covers have a concave outer surface 11b1. Horizontal channels 10a are cut in the guard 10, tapered so as to give a venturi action and to direct water during rinsing against the cutting edges of the blade. A trade mark is impressed on the cover to distinguish the two sides of the razor.
