Abstract
818,866. Gauging arcuate surfaces. RUSTON & HORNSBY Ltd. June 19, 1957 [Oct. 2, 1956], No. 29946/56. Class 106 (2). Apparatus for gauging the roundness of a cavity comprises a frame 13 adjustably positionable within the cavity by three feet 22 angularly spaced about an axis and capable of fine adjustment radially of the axis to locate the frame 13 within the cavity and a feeler 25 mounted on the frame so as to be freely rotatable about the axis and movable outwardly and inwardly on a radius from the axis to give a reading of the radial distance from the axis of a point on the periphery of the cavity contacted by the feeler 25. The feeler 25 may be the plunger of a dial gauge 24 carried by a spindle 23 rotatable in a central bore of the frame 13 and the feet 22 may be fibre pads 22 adjustable by balls 21 and tapered ends 20 of screw-threaded rods 17. Other fine adjustment arrangements for the feet are described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown) and Fig. 5 and two dial gauges 24 may be carried by the spindle 23.
