[Also in Group VIII] An electrical circuit is manufactured by removing the unwanted parts of the metal gauze from a laminate of such gauze and an insulating material. The metal gauze comprises a metal sheet having a large number of interstices therein, such as woven metal gauze, perforated metal sheet and expanded metal sheet. The insulating material may be polystyrene, polyethylene, expanded polystyrene or polyethylene, cured phenol-formaldehyde, or thermoset resinimpregnated fibrous material. Three layers of metal gauze may be separated by two layers of insulating material, and the unwanted parts are removed from the two outer layers of metal to form two printed circuits screened from one another by the middle layer of metal gauze. The unwanted parts of the gauze may be removed by machining, by etching, or by cutting the gauze, e.g. with a knife, and then heating the unwanted parts, e.g. by passing a heavy current through them, until the insulating material softens and then pulling off the unwanted gauze.
