800,891. Rotary tool-heads. SCHIESS A.G. July 13, 1956 [July 15, 1955], No. 21664/56. Class 83 (3). A rotary tool-head for boring, facing, and milling-machines has the radial-feed-movement of a tool-slide effected by axial movement of the usual drill-spindle in the machine. A coarsethreaded member 6 is secured in the socket of the usual drill-spindle 2 and engages a nut 7 rotatable in the tool-head casing 3 and having a toothed-wheel 8 secured to one end. The wheel 8 meshes with a pinion 9 which in turn drives, through bevel gearing 10 and pinions 11, 12, a worm 14 which engages a rack on the back of the tool-slide 4. The pinion 9 may be slidably disengaged by a hand-lever 17 to allow setting of the tool-slide by a hand-gear 18, 19. The spindle 2 normally rotates at the same speed as the casing, but, on axial movement of the spindle by hand wheel 20 or automatically, the nut 7 is rotated and radial-feed of the tool-holder 16 is effected.
