Abstract

800,228. Cores. HOWARD FOUNDRY CO. Sept. 13, 1956 [Oct. 3, 1955 ; Jan. 13, 1956], No. 27992/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 83 (1). Cores comprise a supported flexible, gaspermeable sleeve. The sleeve may be of wovenglass-fibres or asbestos, and supported on a wire strand or ductile-metal-tubing, which may be perforated, or by interwoven metal-strips or threads. Alternatively, the sleeve may be of woven stainless-steel wire. The outer surface of the sleeve may be made smooth by filling the interstices with a filler such as dry plumbago or titanium dioxide. The sleeve and the support may be removed manually or by selective corrosion, e.g. by nitric acid or a mixture of nitric and hydrofluoric acid. Alternatively, the support may be of low melting-point metal which melts after casting and is poured out, the sleeve being subsequently removed.
