797,542. Bridge measurements. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 31, 1956 [Aug. 11, 1955], No. 23222/55. Class 37. [Also in Group XL (c)] A D.C. excited Wheatstone bridge comprises ratio arms R1, R2, standard resistance R3 and variable resistance G controlled, e.g., by a Pirani vacuum gauge. The base electrodes of transistors TR1, TR2 are connected to the diagonal junctions A, B of R1, G and R2, R3, while the emitter electrodes are connected to the positive side of the bridge excitation over a high resistance R6 and a microammeter M is connected between the collector electrodes, which are biased over resistances R4, R5 from a source returned to the negative side of the bridge excitation. Unbalance voltage between AB causes corresponding currents to flow in the base/emitter circuits which are amplified by a factor α/1-α, where a is the transistor current gain, and the amplified currents in the collector electrodes deflect the meter to indicate the magnitude and sense of unbalance. If resistance R6 is high by comparison with that over which the base electrodes are fed, the collector currents are stated to be stabilized for temperature variations.
