Abstract

A pharmaceutical composition comprises a solid base material, e.g. an ointment, or an emollient base and from 0.001 to 1 mg. of a halogen derivative of tyrosine, e.g. diiodotyrosine, diiodothyronine, triiodothyronine, tetraiodothyronine (thyroxine) and their lacto, dextro, and racemic forms, per gram of composition. Other steroid compounds, e.g. estrogen, androgen, may be included in the composition. The base may contain polyethylene glycol, triethanolamine, kaolin, zinc oxide, benzoic acid, wax, talc, starch, calcium carbonate, lanolin which may be mixed with a material of solvent or oleaginous nature, e.g. petroleum jelly, coconut oil, to form ointment or emollient bases.
