[Also in Group X] A decorative panel, pane for a window or a building block comprises two sheets of transparent material between which there is held a picture, pattern or design composed of a set or number of component parts manufactured from natural grained wood veneers. The picture or design is first constructed from wood veneers by known methods and one side is covered with a paper backing. The other side of the picture or design is then fixed by a transparent adhesive to a sheet of transparent substance, preferably of thermoplastic material. The paper backing is then removed and the exposed picture or designs covered by a second sheet of transparent substance and is secured thereto by a transparent adhesive. The resulting panel may then be cut and shaped as desired and the edges sealed by a material such as mastic or bitumen. In a modification an aperture corresponding to the picture or design to be employed is cut in a sheet of transparent material of the same thickness, for example 1/64 of an inch, as the wood veneer of which the picture or design is made. The picture or design is placed in the aperture and the sheet of transparent material and the picture or design is secured between two sheets of transparent material as before. In another modification one of the two sheets of transparent material is recessed on one face to a depth and shape corresponding to the thickness and shape of the picture or design to be used. The picture or design is secured in the recess and the second sheet of transparent material then applied. In a further modification the wood veneers forming the picture or design and two sheets of a thermo-plastic substance are secured together by using the plasticity of the transparent material before it has set.
