Abstract

778,563. Artificial legs. VOKES SCIENTIFIC SURGICAL APPLIANCES, Ltd. Jan. 31, 1956, No. 3111/56. Class 81(2) An artificial leg has a thigh piece 1, Fig. 1, having a socket section 2, fitted with an air release valve in a housing 3, and having a' frusto-conical end piece 4 welded &c. to it at 5. A hard rubber sealing ring 8 is affixed to a flanged sealing cap 6. The cap is provided with a hinged handle 9 and lugs 11 carrying anchor nuts 12. The cap is locked in position by screws passing through slots 13 in the thigh and socket parts and engaging the nuts. In another embodiment, in which no locking means are required, the lower end 4, Fig. 2, of the socket is integral with the upper section 2 and has an annular bulge 14 for a closure member 6 having a sealing ring 8,' and a handle 9 riveted in position.
