Classes 99(1) and 99(2) In a pipe for the ventilation of mines, formed by coiling helically a strip 1' of synthetic material such as polyvinyl chloride or a polyamide, the strip, which has a reinforcing ridge 2 adjacent one edge thereof, is coiled in such a mariner that the edge of the strip remote from the ridge overlaps the portion 4 of the strip on the next turn thereof lying between the ridge and the adjacent edge. As shown, a core 3 of synthetic resin material is embedded in the ridge, and a hollow end ring 5, larger in diameter than the pipe, has an extension 6 extending into and welded to the pipe; two lengths of pipe are joined by a sleeve overlapping the adjacent rings. The thickness of the portion 4 may be greater than the normal thickness of the synthetic material; alternatively, that portion is tapered.
