Abstract

774,912. Valves. PULS, E. F. Sept. 14, 1954 [Sept. 16, 1953], No. 26681/54. Class 135. In a rotary cylindrical valve for controlling the supply and exhaust of pressure fluid, e.g., oil to and from working cylinders for clutching and declutching gear trains, the ports in the rotary slide are arranged so that when it moves from one operative position to another it is floatingly supported. As shown, a valve member 2, Fig. 1, rotatably mounted in a ported sleeve 1 having a port 3 connected to a supply pump 8 and ports 4 connected to the cylinders is formed with an axial passage 5 closed at its ends and communicating at all times with the port 3. Circumferential grooves 11 and longitudinal grooves 12, Fig. 5, cut in the valve member 2 provide rectangular sealing faces 10 which cooperate with the ports 4. Radial ports 9 connect each sealing face with the axial passage 5. On rotation of the valve member through gearing 16, pressure liquid issuing from the ports 9 reacts against the sleeve 1 to maintain the valve member in radial balance in moving between operative positions of the valve. When a port 9 co-operates with a port 4 the unbalancing of the ports causes the valve member to move towards the port 4 to provide a seal until pressure in the associated cylinder builds up to pump pressure. The valve member is mounted with slight axial movement between end stops 15, 15a. Liquid from the cylinders returns to sump B through the grooves 11, 12. The circumferential grooves 11 may be replaced by a helical groove in which case the sealing faces 10 will be diamond-shaped.
