Textile pirn winding machinery comprises a support 11 for a yarn package 12 to be unwound, a main frame 1 on which is mounted mechanism 2, 3, 5, 6 for forming the unwound yarn 21 into a pirn and a tension device 16a ... 16d which is isolated from the frame 1 so that substantially no vibrations are transmitted to the tension device from the frame 1. Preferably the device 16a ... 16d is of the gravity-loaded disc-type supported on a separate frame 7 attached to the floor of the mill through felt &c. pads 8, 9.
