Abstract
765,295. Making core yarns. CELANESE CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Jan. 6, 1955 [Jan. 6, 1954], No. 406/55. Class 109. [Also in Group IX] A process for the production of core yarns comprises rotating a yarn package support 34 for twisting and winding thereon filamentary material, drafting a plurality of spaced rovings 29, 31 of staple fibres, positively feeding the spaced and drafted rovings to a common point 32 and thence to said support 34 and positively and simultaneously feeding a yarn 21 through said common point 32 to said package support 34 at a lower linear speed than that of the spaced and drafted rovings, whereby the rotation of the support 34 twists the resulting composite filamentary material and wraps the staple fibres round the yarn 21. As shown, the rovings 29, 31 are led through trumpets 27, 28 to the drafting rollers 11, 12; 13, 14; 16, 17; while the yarn 21 is fed by rollers 19, 22 to a groove 26 in the top roller 17 positioned between the rovings. In an example, the rovings were of 1300 denier and comprised black pigmented cellulose acetate fibres of average length 2 inch and denier 2. The rear rollers were rotated at a speed of 1.3 feet per minute while the front rollers were driven at 33.8 feet per minute. The yarn 21 was of continuous filaments of white saponified cellulose acetate of high tenacity and of denier 30. It was fed at 32 feet per minute. The spinning bobbin rotated at 9000 revolutions per minute. The resulting yarn was of black appearance.
