Abstract

759,290. Continuous-casting machines. BOHLER & CO., AKT.-GES., GEB. Feb. 22, 1954 [Feb. 21, 1953], No. 5176/54. Class 83 (1). In continuous casting, the billet, after its detachment from the mould 1 due to shrinkage caused by cooling, passes through a cooling- jacket 2, and coolant is sprayed directly on to the billet through openings 3 in the inner wall of the cooling-jacket. Evaporated coolant is withdrawn through openings 4. At the commencement of the casting-operation, the withdrawal-plug is placed below the cooling-jacket and bolts, cylinders, &c. connect it to a shockabsorbing plate which projects into the mould. The space between the plug and the plate is filled with a loose, material such as metal chips, or asbestos wool.
