Abstract

755,213. Thermionic cathode constructions. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 25, 1954 [Feb. 4, 1953], No. 3112/53. Class 39 (1). Cathode support insulator 1 has a central hole in which is fastened a metal sleeve 3. The cathode is fastened at the bottom end 4 to the sleeve but is spaced from it by a small clearance of, say, 0.005 inch, the emissive end surface being at the top surface of the insulator. The arrangement minimizes effects of evaporation of conductive material on the insulator, and of thermal expansion. The outer rim of the insulator carries a sleeve 6 projecting beyond its bottom surface so that the assembly can be inserted in electrode 7, its distance from aperture 8 adjusted by shims inserted in side holes 9, and fixed by welding the projecting part of 6 to electrode 7. The end surface carrying aperture 8 may be conical as shown or flat. The emissive end surface may be corrugated as at 5 to minimize heat distortion.
