Abstract
753,886. Multiplex radio signalling. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. March 25, 1954, No. 8698/54. Class 40 (5). A first set of individual channel devices 1, 2, 3, Fig. 3, utilizing respective non-overlapping frequency bands A, B, C are connected to a first multi-channel transmission guiding medium such as the aerial 10a by the same coupling means 4, 5, 6 as is used to connect a second similar set 28, 29, 30, using the same respective bands A<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>1</SP>, to a second medium such as the aerial 27a. The coupling means comprises three band rejection filter units 4, 5, 6, which reject the respective bands A, B, C connected in series between the aerials 10a, 27a, the corresponding channel devices of the two sets being connected to opposite ends of the filter for the frequency band utilizer thereby. The channel devices may be all transmitters or all receivers. or one set may be transmitters and the other receivers. The rejection filter units, such as 4, may comprise a hybrid network 18, Fig. 2, the main output of which is connected to the aerial feeder 10 while the other main arm is connected to line 7 of channel device 1. A second hybrid network 19 has its main arms connected respectively to line 15 of channel unit 28 and line 20 leading to the next filter unit 5. Between the two pairs of corresponding side arms of the hybrid networks 18, 19 are connected band-rejection filters 23, 26, the total phase shift in each arm at the mean wavelength being the same, but quarter wavelength phase displacements being provided between the two inputs and the two outputs of the filters.
